Since opening its doors in 1863, the present Government House has been home to each Governor appointed to serve Western Australia. As a heritage-listed, State-owned residence surrounded by 3 hectares of gardens, it is an important Western Australian landmark steeped in historical, cultural and environmental significance.
Each year the Office of the Governor coordinates Open Day events that attract thousands of people from across the community to the Government House Domain.
Open Day is a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to visit and see inside Government House and tour the beautiful gardens and grounds.
Entry is free.
Following are some of the activities you may like to try on Open Day:

  • Self-guided tour through rooms of the heritage-listed Government House with volunteer guides on hand to answer your questions.
  • Take a self-guided tour of the historic gardens.
  • Enjoy entertainment in the Grounds and the Ballroom.
  • Bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawns or purchase refreshments on offer.
  • Visit the information booths of various community organisations.

Parking and access

  • On-site parking is not available.
  • Pedestrian access is via the pedestrian and main gates on St Georges Terrace or the rear gates on Terrace Drive.  
  • Pedestrian access to the Government House Ballroom is via the laneway between Council House and Government House.
