Video conference with Hon Kerry Sanderson AC, Chair, The WA Parks Foundation

The Governor spoke with the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC, Chair of The WA Parks Foundation and former Governor of Western Australia (2014 – 2018).

“For me, Zoom is a great facilitator of non-security sensitive conversation. Over the past few weeks, Zoom meetings, phone calls and one-on-one meetings have been a mainstay of communicating with organisations that are deeply important to the objectives of our operation at Government House.

A conversation today with my predecessor the Hon Kerry Sanderson AC was especially useful. Though we talked about her responsibilities in the health and university sector, conversation was mainly about the WA Parks Foundation that she founded and now Chairs.

The Hon Kerry Sanderson AC has raised resources for useful initiatives in expanding the amenity of many of our parks. What an asset in this time of pandemic. The lifting of some regional boundaries can now send us in the direction of many of them. No trouble with necessary physical separation. She is working with local creative agencies to get our parks mapped into our tourist offerings, particularly for the next wildflower season. Even more usefully, maps are being developed for use within parks, massively increasing the value to visitors of their time by identifying fascinating walking trails.

Always impressive to see how we are using this time to add value to the things we do when protections lift.”
