19th December 2019^Dinner in honour of the Honourable Wayne Martin AC

The Governor and Ms Annus hosted a dinner for the Honourable Wayne Martin AC and his wife Mrs Margie Martin.

The dinner was an opportunity to thank Mr Martin for his service as Lieutenant Governor of Western Australia during the Governor’s term and since 2009.

In November, the Honourable Chief Justice Peter Quinlan was sworn in as Western Australia’s new Lieutenant Governor.

The Lieutenant Governor serves as deputy to the Governor of Western Australia and fulfills the functions of the Governor’s role in the Governor’s absence.

About the Honourable Wayne Martin AC

The Honourable Wayne Martin AC was appointed as Western Australia’s 13th Chief Justice on 1 May 2006. He joined the Independent Bar in 1988 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1993. From 2001 – 2003, he took on the role of counsel assisting the HIH Royal Commission in Sydney.

Mr Martin was President of the WA Bar Association between 1996 and 1999, and Chairman of the Western Australian Law Reform Commission from 1996 to 2001, when the commission completed the Review of the Criminal and Civil Justice System in Western Australia. He was also a member of the Council of the Law Society of Western Australia, and was President of the Society when appointed to his current office.

In 2007, Mr Martin was awarded WA Citizen of the Year for the Professions, and in 2012 he was awarded a Companion (AC) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for eminent service to the judiciary and to the law, particularly as Chief Justice of Western Australia, to legal reform and education, and to the community.
