Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami

The Governor has released an official message following the devastation caused by an earthquake and tsunami in Sulawesi, Indonesia on Friday, 28th September 2018.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the tragic loss of life caused by an earthquake and tsunami on Sulawesi island on Friday. Locals there have welcomed many Australians and many of us will have friends there.

As our closest neighbour, Western Australia shares significant trade and cultural ties with the Republic of Indonesia, and is home to nearly 16 per cent of all Indonesia-born residents in Australia.

Indonesian growth and happiness is important to us. On behalf of all Western Australians I extend my deepest sympathies and prayers to the people of the Republic of Indonesia at this extremely challenging time.”
