The Governor and the Consul-General of Malaysia exchanging gifts

The Governor received Mr Edi Mahmud, Consul General of Malaysia. Mr Mahmud will soon finish his time in Perth and return to Malaysia.

Mr Mahmud commenced his role as Consul-General in July 2018. Mr Mahmud has served as a Malaysian diplomat for more than 18 years including as the Charge d’Affaires ad interim to Fiji (2013-2015), the First Secretary to Vietnam (2009-2010) and the Second Secretary / Charge d’Affaires ad interim to Yemen (2004-2009).

Western Australia and Malaysia maintain a robust relationship with strong economic and people-to-people ties. Malaysia is Western Australia’s 2nd largest market for international visitors and 3rd largest market for international students.
