1st December 2019 • World Aids Day event at Government House

The Governor and Ms Annus hosted an event in the Government House Ballroom Supper Room and Terrace to mark World Aids Day (external link) with the WA Department of Health.

At the event, the Hon Roger Cook MLA, Minister for Health, launched the WA Department of Health “Going somewhere?” (safe-sex travel) campaign. Read the Minister’s media statement (external link)

In his welcoming address, the Governor remarked that he was pleased to welcome everyone to the House to raise awareness about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS, show support for people living with HIV, and commemorate people who have passed as a result of the virus.

Other speakers at the event included Mr Zak Kirkup MLA, Shadow Minister for Health,  Mr Asanka Gunasekera, Chair, WA AIDS Council Board and Ms Wendy and Mr Steve Walker (married couple), HIV positive speakers.

The Governor and Ms Annus are committed to supporting organisations and activities which advance the objectives of those building the State’s future and seek to create opportunities to increase the use of Government House, Ballroom and Grounds as a facility to enhance this capacity.
