White Island volcano eruption in New Zealand

On behalf of all West Australians, Susie and I extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have tragically lost their lives or who have been injured by Monday’s volcanic eruption on White Island, New Zealand.

Particularly, our thoughts are focused on the families and loved ones of those Australians injured and receiving care, and those identified as having passed away or missing – at the time of writing, Gavin Dallow and his 15-year-old stepdaughter Zoe Hosking, Brisbane mother and daughter Julie and Jessica Richards, and two missing Sydney families.

We pray for strength and peace for all emergency responders and health workers who are working to search for and heal those who had visited the island on Monday afternoon.

We join with our New Zealand friends, and those around the world who have been affected, in hope for good news.

The Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia
