The Ballroom features the dimensions of a grand building with a large dance floor 30 metres in length and 15 metres wide, and an impressive ceiling and colonnaded balconies. Government House Ballroom featured on Channel 7’s ‘Rough Cut’ program January 13, 2020 By Adele Hollywood The historic Government House Ballroom has been the scene of many grand receptions, balls for visiting royalty and investitures since it was completed more than 120 years ago in 1899. It was designed and built under the supervision of then-Government Architect Mr John Grainger, the father of Melbourne composer and pianist Mr Percy Grainger. Percy performed two shows in the Ballroom in 1926 – the pamphlet billing him as ‘The Genius of the Piano’. Last year, the heritage-listed Ballroom was filmed for a story about this famous father-and-son duo who helped shape local architecture and music in Perth. The story was featured on the student-produced TV program ‘Rough Cut’ on Channel 7, on the 29th December 2019. Government House thanks Ms Holly Ferguson, an Edith Cowan University post-graduate broadcasting student (pictured) for investigating this story. https://vimeo.com/385188891 Footage courtesy Channel 7 Perth and ECU Broadcasting Today, the Ballroom is available for hire to eligible organisations within the community.
