Red Cross volunteers will be collecting cash donations at Government House on Wednesday 15th January and Thursday 16th January. Governor’s patronage organisations – How you can support bushfire relief efforts January 15, 2020 By Adele Hollywood The Governor and Ms Annus are keen to support the Governor’s patronage organisations that are helping with bushfire relief and recovery efforts both in Western Australia, and in the eastern states. Red Cross at Government House Red Cross volunteers will be collecting cash donations for Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund during our weekly ‘Lunchtimes in the Grounds’ opening hours today and tomorrow (Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th January). If you’re in the Perth CBD come and show your support between 12-2pm! As normal, you are invited to take a stroll around the Gardens or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy. Volunteers will be in red and stationed at the gates on St George’s Terrace (next to the Perth Concert Hall) and Terrace Road (opposite the Perth Concert Hall public car park). The Grounds of Government House are open to the public every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 12 noon and 2pm. The following organisations are coordinating local and national donations: Australian Red Cross (WA) A donation to Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund will help people prepare for, cope with and recover from disasters. Donations to the fund have already powered Red Cross’ nationwide response to the bushfires since they began in September. Responding to the unfolding disaster, Red Cross teams have been in evacuation and relief centres across the country, providing psychological first aid, and in some cases other essentials such as food, water and relief items. The app uses a mobile phone’s GPS functionality so callers can provide emergency call-takers with their location information as determined by their smart phone. Visit the WA Parks Foundation website for more information and instructions on how to download the app. Emergency WA For comprehensive bushfire warnings and advice, always refer to the Emergency WA website (external link), coordinated by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
