The Governor assisted with the award presentation after delivering a welcome address to participants and spectators. 9th February 2020 • 2020 Smokin’ in the City Charity Barbecue Challenge February 9, 2020 By Adele Hollywood The Governor officiated at the award ceremony for the Smokin’ in the City 2020 BBQ Challenge. Presented by the Mondo Community Warriors, the eighth annual BBQ event was held in the Government House Gardens. Proceeds from the event will go to Mondo Community Warriors Charity Fund and Lifeline WA. The Governor is proud to be Patron of Lifeline WA. About the event The overnight smoking challenge saw local and interstate pitmasters start their BBQs on Saturday evening, 8th February, followed by presentations of their finished products on Sunday 9th February. The challenge is a Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned barbecue cook-off. All teams were exclusively invited to participate. Spectators attended on Sunday for family-friendly activities and ‘Tips for Treats’ – an opportunity to sample each team’s produce.
