Spotlight on Governor’s Patronage – Salvation Army WA Red Shield Appeal

For over 50 years, The Red Shield Appeal has helped to fund vital programs and services as the Salvation Army’s key fundraising event.

As Patron of the Red Shield Appeal in WA, the Governor recorded a message to help the community get behind this year’s event. Watch the video here

Donations to the Red Shield Appeal fund programs and services that support marginalised and disadvantaged people in Australia addressing issues such as:

  • homelessness
  • family and domestic violence
  • financial hardship
  • disaster and emergency relief
  • addiction and community support
  • and, particularly now, the social isolation of many Australians, including the elderly.

The threat of COVID-19 is exasperating the challenges that many Australians are already facing, including those created from the tragedy of recent bushfires earlier this year.

Because of this, the Salvation Army’s services are in greater need than ever before.

How to support the Appeal this year

The Appeal will continue this year but with new ways to give to keep our community safe.

Replacing the iconic doorknock and volunteers at collection points, you can start your own ‘Digital Doorknock’ –  simply create a page on the Salvation Army website, and you can start ‘knocking’ through email, social media or even text message.

You can also create your own fundraiser, donate to a local Salvos team of your choice or simply contribute what you can to The Salvation Army.

Salvation Army volunteers

As we recognise Australia’s 600, 000 volunteers this week for National Volunteer Week 2020, we also thank the men and women who volunteer to help the Salvation Army in their mission to help vulnerable people in our community.

“When everyday Australians are in need, you are there to cater to thousands, to be a friendly face in store, to be a listening ear. You have impacted countless people.” Salvation Army Commissioner Janine Donaldson to all Salvation Army volunteers.

The Governor is proud to be Patron of the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal in WA.
