Governor meets with Telethon Kids Institute to discuss targeted efforts against COVID-19

The Governor met with Professor Jonathan Carapetis, Executive Director, The Honourable Julie Bishop, Chair, Ms Alecia Benzie, Development Head and Ms Fiona Drummond, Board Member from Telethon Kids Institute to discuss their targeted efforts to fight COVID-19 including the work of infectious disease researchers at the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases.

The Institute has funded the Coronavax project thanks to generous support from Wesfarmers Limited which will lay the groundwork for the successful implementation of a coronavirus vaccine once it is available. The institute is also collaborating with global experts to launch the ‘Your COVID-19’ Risk online tool to assess the risk of contracting COVID-19 and provide advice to reduce transmission. These initiatives will have benefits for children and adults not just in WA but globally.

“We are so fortunate to have a world-class Institute like Telethon Kids based here in WA – they are one of the largest and most successful medical research institutes in Australia and play a major part in our State’s world leading ranking in this space. Now they are on the case to help combat COVID-19 and we could not be more proud as West Australians.”
