Harry Perkins Institute update Governor on recent COVID-19 initiatives

The Governor met with leaders of the Harry Perkins Institute to receive a briefing on the organisation’s recent challenges and achievements in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Governor was pleased to speak with Professor Peter Leedman, Director; Dr Brendan Kennedy, Laboratory Head, Bioimaging Research and Innovation for Translational Engineering; Professor Nigel Laing AO Scientific Head, Molecular Medicine and Hon Wayne Martin AC QC, Chair, and has reflected on the meeting below,

“Keeping up with one of our great research institutions. Lunch with representatives of the Harry Perkins Institute. This is part of a program of staying in touch with critical operations in the current and future environment.

A subsidiary, Linear Clinical Research, is trialing one of the first vaccines to demonstrate safety and immune response to COVID-19. In May they teamed up with UWA, Department of Health and Adarsh Australia to make 10, 000 face shields. Contributing to building up stocks should the virus return.

This crisis draws attention to the brilliance in medical research institutions we enjoy here.” Governor
