Despite COVID-19 restrictions, husband and wife owner/operators, Mr Bruno Da Prato and Ms Francoise Sas-Da Prato with parents Mr Igor Sas and Ms Carmel Migro, have created a thriving business creating many employment opportunities. From selling pasta and eggs to incorporating a cafe and animal attraction. The Governor witnessed the popularity of this new establishment firsthand as a line of families formed out the door ready to enjoy a collection of home baked products. Eye-catching selection of cupcakes from Banjup Local Delicious chocolate cupcakes from Banjup Local At the back of an iconic grand house built by Bruno’s family, this cafe attracts people with families from the local estates and many passers-by. Mums and Dads flock in to sample the delicious homemade cakes, cookies and coffee on offer and also a fun animal experience for the kids including feeding the miniature ponies, goats, emus and sheep. The Governor with staff from Banjup Local Having only opened the cafe two weeks prior to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, Banjup Local was forced to adapt fast. From devising a simple but effective way to show all of the cakes and baked goods available, to accepting card payments through the side window to maintain physical distancing. Buying a selection of cakes for the staff at Government House from Banjup Local Francoise and Bruno have grand plans for Banjup Local hoping to expand the cafe experience in the near future. With their popularity abundantly visible during the visit, the business will surely go from strength to strength.
