HIP Company is an exciting collective of young professional musicians from Perth, Western Australia, who specialise in the performance of seventeenth and eighteenth-century music on historical instruments. Playing to a full room on Sunday, the ensemble featured a collection of the their favourite works of Baroque masters including Bach, Handel, Boismortier and Clérambault, interwoven with a few surprises from other genres. About the ensemble Its founding members Bonnie de la Hunty (soprano), Jonty Coy (Baroque flute), Sarah Papadopoulos (Baroque violin), Michael Lukin (harpsichord) and Krista Low (Baroque cello), each acclaimed soloists, have been garnering increasing attention for their performances together as St Andrew’s Baroque since 2018. The ensemble is committed to engaging with the community through approachable and eclectic performances, combining tradition with innovation. Recent concert programmes have included works by Bach, Telemann, Handel, Rameau, and their contemporaries, alongside Irish and Scottish folk music, and the occasional jazz offering, all on historical Baroque instruments. Their close friendship and their shared sense of joy in music-making is always on display.
