Update on the 2020 Social Impact Festival’s Danjoo Koorliny Elder Leader Briefing

The Governor was pleased to meet with Dr Noel Nannup, Dr Richard Walley, Professor Colleen Hayward and Carol Innes – organisers of the 2020 Danjoo Koorliny Elder Leader Briefing for the Social Impact Festival.

Katie Stubley, Dr John Stubley and Paul Flatau were also in attendance representing the UWA Centre for Social Impact who are partnering with the Festival.

During the meeting the Governor was updated on the focus and direction for the 2020 Danjoo Koorliny Elder Briefing and the Social Impact Festival happening on 4th August 2020.

The Danjoo Koorliny Walking Together Social Impact Project and Festival are designed and led by Aboriginal leaders to help us all walk together towards 2029 (200 years of colonisation in Perth) and beyond. Each year, the festival moves from one of the six Noongar seasons to the next, with the theme for the following year being set by that season. Last year’s festival took place in the season of Makuru, which had the theme of ‘fertility’ and conversations; this is the theme for all of this year until the festival in August, which takes place in the season of Djilba – the season of ‘incubation’.
