2020 Australian Honours – Australian Police Medal (APM) Governor hosts sixth and final Investiture Ceremony at Government House for 2020 August 27, 2020 By Adele Hollywood An important part of the Governor’s role is the recognition of significant service and outstanding contribution to the Western Australian community. On Thursday 27th August, the Governor formally invested fifteen Western Australian recipients for the 2020 Australia Day Honours in a ceremony at Government House. Congratulations to: Appointed as a Member in the Military Division of the Order of Australia COLONEL STEVEN RAYMOND GAUNT AM For exceptional service as Commanding Officer of the 13th Combat Service Support Battalion, Senior Medical Officer, and Deputy Commander of the 13th Brigade. Awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross COMMANDER BARRY CARMICHAEL RAN CSC For outstanding achievement as Commanding Officer HMAS Farncomb from April to June 2018. Awarded the Conspicuous Service Medal LIEUTENANT COMMANDER SIOBHAN ANN STURDY RAN CSM For meritorious achievement as the Marine Engineering Officer in HMAS Sheean. Awarded the Public Service Medal MR MICHAEL BARNES PSM For outstanding public service to state government finances in Western Australia. MS HEATHER BRAYFORD PSM For outstanding public service to legislative reform and policy development in Western Australia. MR JOHN FREDERICK FISCHER PSM For outstanding public service to the community of Western Australia through a range of roles. Awarded the Australian Police Medal DETECTIVE SERGEANT ALAN MILLAR APM For service to Western Australia Police since 1988 at various metropolitan and regional locations and more recently Detective Sergeant Alan Millar continues to provide advice and assistance to the WAPF Undercover Unit. SERGEANT SIOBHAN O’LOUGHLIN APM For service to Western Australia Police since 1990 at various metropolitan locations. Sergeant O’Loughlin is a founding member of the WAPF Chemical, Biological and Radiological forensic response team and currently a team leader in the WAPF Forensic Joint Hazardous Response Team. INSPECTOR SHANE SADLER APM For service to Western Australia Police since 1978 in both country and metropolitan locations. His commitment to the welfare of police officers and their families was demonstrated in his continuous service to both WA Police Legacy and Police Families Assistance Council. He has been awarded life membership of both Boards. SUPERINTENDENT VALDO SORGIOVANNI APM For service to Western Australia Police since 1982 at various metropolitan and regional locations and in 2018 he was appointed to the role of Officer in Charge of Ethical Standards Division and since that time has been instrumental in contemporising the Section 23 Police Act discipline process and key policy reforms around the Managerial Intervention Model and WA Police Code of Conduct review project. Awarded the Australian Fire Services Medal MR JAMES PALMIRO ARMANASCO AFSM For services to the Kalamunda Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and to the community of Western Australia. MR WARREN JOHN DAY AFSM For services to the Busselton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and to the community of Western Australia. MR PETER SUTTON AFSM For services to the Western Australian Department of Fire and Emergency Services and to the community of Western Australia. Awarded the Australian Emergency Services Medal MR DANNY GOODLAD ESM For services to the Marine Rescue WA and his commitment to marine safety in Western Australia. MR DAVID JASON PRICE ESM For services to the Rockingham-Kwinana State Emergency Service and to the safety of the community of Western Australia. About Investiture Ceremonies Investiture Ceremonies will be held at 10am and 2pm this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Recipients are allowed two guests each. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor’s Establishment gave all recipients of this year’s honours lists the option to receive their honours and awards in the mail, or wait to attend an Investiture Ceremony when it was safe to do so. As a result, 56 packages were mailed to recipients from the Governor’s Establishment to recipients who opted to receive the insignia of their awards by post. Traditionally, the Governor conducts one to two Investiture Ceremonies both in April and September. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s April ceremony was rescheduled and has now been combined with the September event, held over six ceremonies. About the Medal of the Order of Australia Individuals are appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service in a particular locality or field of activity or to a particular group. The Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) is awarded only for outstanding devotion to duty, or outstanding achievement in the application of exceptional skills, judgement or dedication, in non-warlike situations. Conspicuous Service Medal (CSM) is awarded for meritorious achievement or devotion to duty, in non-warlike situations. The Public Service Medal (PSM) recognises public service employees, including those of the Australian Government and state, territory and local governments, who have given outstanding public service. The Australian Police Medal (APM) recognises distinguished service by a member of an Australian police force. The Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) recognises distinguished service by a member of an Australian fire service. The Emergency Services Medal (ESM) recognises distinguished service as a member of an Australian emergency service.
