Passionate Kings Park volunteers lead wildflower tour

The Governor and Ms Annus were treated to an explosion of colour when they attended a walking tour of King’s Park Botanical Gardens this week.

Kings Park are currently running their annual festival with the theme, ‘Celebrating Perth’s Green Heart’ Kings Park Festival, running from 1 – 30 September. Visitors can see thousands of Western Australian wildflowers in full bloom right across the park and take part in guided walks and talks, outdoor fitness sessions and art displays and exhibitions.  Click here to find out more

The Governor and Ms Annus enjoyed learning about the festival with King’s Park Volunteer Guides – a dynamic group of over 140 active people of varying ages and backgrounds. Each Guide has a love for Kings Park and a desire to share this passion with visitors.

Since the group was formed in 1984, the Guides have grown to accommodate changes in Kings Park and to its visitors. In 2016, the Guides won the WA Community Volunteer Organisation of the Year.

The passionate team of Guides lead guided walks daily, varying the walking tour throughout the year to include botanical, ecological, historical, cultural and scientific aspects of Kings Park as well as contributing to park projects and research.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden enjoys the devotion of hundreds of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. Together they make this landmark the iconic and inspiring place it is to Western Australians and visitors alike.
