Business is growing at the Mushroom Guys

The Governor visited Adrian Acquado and Derek Novak at The Mushroom Guys to explore the wonderful world of urban farming.

Adrian and Derek started this venture in December 2018, and it’s no wonder that they have gone from strength to strength.

After sampling some of the freshly harvested shiitake mushrooms, “the Guys” gave the Governor a tour of their operation.

Adrian explained that they watched video tutorials on YouTube to learn how to build the pressurised grow rooms required.

“The internet is a great source of information. Neither Derek nor myself have a background in farming but we were able to learn everything we needed to know to get this thriving business off the ground.” Adrian Acquado – Director – The Mushroom Guys

The success of the business is largely due to offering something different. Currently growing ten different varieties of mushrooms, these two entrepreneurs saw a gap in the market and now supply fresh produce picked to order and available all year round.

“While I was in the United States, I was always fascinated by Michelle Obama’s enthusiasm for urban farming. Here at the Mushroom Guys I now see one of the classiest urban farms. The guys have worked extremely hard to establish this truly impressive business, largely off their own studying of the internet. Doing well in this field will no doubt see them to continue to grow and succeed.”

Bib & Tucker, Young George and Lulu La Delizia are just some of the restaurants buying these 100% West Australian grown gourmet mushrooms.

The Mushroom Guys source local growing mediums and employ a sustainable and renewable farming practice. Mushrooms are grown and harvested locally so they can ensure the freshest product available.
