Reception to celebrate Musica Viva’s 75th Anniversary

The Governor and Ms Annus hosted a reception for Musica Viva to celebrate their 75th Anniversary.

Since its humble begins at a Beethoven and Mozart concert at Sydney’s Conservatorium of Music 75 years ago, Musica Viva has grown to encompass artists and collaborators, audiences and donors, volunteers and committees, board and staff from across the country.

Musica Viva’s presence in Western Australia is ably led by the WA State Manager, Ms Fiona Campbell (who also serves as the Artistic Director of the Government House Foundation), and the recently appointed national Director of Education Ms Cassandra Lake, who I understand is the first senior manager in the company to be based in Western Australia.

Musica Viva has achieved a remarkable amount in its 75 years of life. The organisation is now one of the world’s largest presenters of chamber music. In 2019 alone, Musica Viva Australia held 2,877 events with a total attendance approaching 360,000. Musica Viva provided work to 352 artists, 80% of which were Australian. The organisation also held its first full live-streamed concert, Nevermind which is sure to have placed it in a good position to combat the challenges of 2020.

Through your generous support, each and every one of you directly contributes to enhancing Western Australia’s cultural vibrancy. My sincere thanks to you all. Your continued support will be central to Musica Viva’s successes into and beyond 2021.”
