Truth-telling and knowledge sharing of Australia’s history is vital to progress reconciliation and healing. The Carrolup Centre for Truth-telling, with The Herbert Mayer Collection of Carrolup Art at its heart, will be a focal point for this reflection. This is a permanent home for a collection of rare artworks created by Aboriginal children of Australia’s Stolen Generations. This Centre will serve as a foundation for a whole-of-University initiative to engage the wider community in truth-telling, healing and reconciliation. When a collection of Carrolup artworks came home to Nyungar country in 2013, a unique and precious resource was returned to Western Australia. Lost overseas for more than 60 years, the exquisite artworks by young children of the Stolen Generations offer a rare glimpse into the lived experiences of Aboriginal children during a dark chapter of our past.
