16 Days in WA 2020 Event

The Governor hosted the Hon Simone McGurk MLA – Minister for Child Protection; Women’s Interests; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Community Services and Ms Angela Hartwig – Former Chief Executive Officer, Women’s Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services along with sector representatives to thank the supporters of the WA Government’s annual campaign, 16 Days in WA to Stop Violence Against Women, including the WA community service sector working with women, children and men impacted by family and domestic violence.

“It is fitting that this campaign started on 25 November – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day.

I want to acknowledge and express my appreciation for the extremely important work that your organisations do to support women and children in family and domestic violence situations. Your work is often life saving for these people and cannot be underestimated.

As a community we still have a long way to go in changing societal attitudes towards women. It is encouraging to see campaigns such as the 16 Days in WA and the excellent work that the community service organisations are doing in making a change in our community”

The Governor
