Perth-based choir Voyces delighted audiences with a collection of new and old Christmas carols Sounds of Christmas fill the air with a weekend of concerts in the Government House ballroom December 21, 2020 By Carole Kerr A festive atmosphere welcomed guests to Government House Ballroom this weekend, with three concerts across three nights. The concerts were part of the Restart the Arts with Government House Initiative. The sounds of Christmas filled the air on Friday as Perth-based choir Voyces (above) presented a range of Christmas carols, old and new, to delight the audience. Voyces were joined on stage by guest artists Brianna Louwen, Alexandra Bak and Jonathan Bradley. On Saturday, world-class pianist James Dekleva presented a solo recital, transporting the audience across the frozen snowscapes of Russia with Tchaikovsky’s Dumka, as well as the festive and technically demanding Nutcracker Suite from Tchaikovsky’s ballet, and a selection of pieces by Beethoven. The weekend performances in the ballroom wrapped up with a Sunday night concert by the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra. Corelli’s Concerto Grosso No.4 set the festive tone for the orchestra’s Christmas concert, conducted by Rachael Aquilina and featuring oboist Hannah Woolley. We look forward to more Restart the Art performances across 2021, with the first performance featuring the Cygnus Arioso Summer Camp: Final Concert on Sunday 10 January.
