A reception for the Royal Western Australian Historical Society

The Governor and Ms Annus hosted a reception for the Royal Western Australian Historical Society (RWAHS) at Government House.

The Governor is Patron of the Society and welcomed members and guests to the event, which saw the RWAHS officially launch a fundraising campaign in support of a new History West Community Centre to house its headquarters.

Formed in 1926 the RWAHS has grown over the years to now support a network of 75 affiliated historical societies across the state, with more than 3000 members.

Dedicated to the promotion of the history of Western Australia through the collection and protection of significant historical artefacts and research materials, the Society is hoping to raise funds for a new building where growing collections can be properly stored and showcased.

The Governor wished the Society every success in it’s efforts for new and expanded facilities.

“Your vision to build a place that will care for and conserve the Society’s historical collections to national standards is to be commended,” said the Governor.

“Yours is truly a valuable resource to Western Australia and I fully support your desire for a new place to call home – a place that will help house, care for, and represent people’s stories from around the state.”
