“Restart the Arts’ reached a new peak on Sunday with an unforgettable performance by Simone Craddock, Adam Hall and Adrian Galante” – The Governor

The winners of the FRINGE WORLD Music & Musicals Award, Simone Craddock (2020), Adam Hall (2019), and Adrian Galante on the piano provided the perfect Valentine’s Day performance on Sunday taking the audience, which included The Governor and Ms Annus, on a musical and historical journey back through the emerging era of American jazz that paid tribute to the great musical pairing of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

The afternoon concert featured many of the songs recorded by the pair at Capitol Studios back in 1956.

The Governor welcomed the audience to Government House Ballroom before inviting them to enjoy what was not only a great musical performance of fabulous songs, great trumpet and wonderful piano playing, but also so much more.

“Throughout the show Simone, Adam and Adrian reminded us of facets of American sociology, which in the time we are living in at the moment was very apt. They included an extraordinary story of how a club owner banned African American singers, including Ella Fitzgerald from performing and only when Marilyn Monroe rang that owner and told him that if he lifted that ban she would sit in the front row of every Ella Fitzgerald performance every night and he could take as many photos of her there, was that ban lifted,” said the Governor.

“It was a brilliant musical performance and a history lesson wrapped up in one.

Not only was the singing, music and artistry of the three superb but it was also uplifting in so many ways. It also demonstrated something that not many of us are aware of here in WA, in that we have so many returning artists of genuine greatness that because of the world we currently live in are now back home performing at an unparalleled level we have not seen at least in the past decade.”
