Scouts WA Youth Awards Ceremony

The Governor officiated at the Scouts WA Youth Awards Ceremony held at Perth Concert Hall.

The annual event celebrates and recognises the work, skills and knowledge youth members have acquired and their achievements and awards.

The Governor applauded the quick response of Scouts WA to be proactive during the challenge of COVID-19 in keeping its young members safe, entertained and connected through a variety of online initiatives and programs.

“It was a privilege to attend the Scouts WA award afternoon. I am proud of being the State’s Chief Scout and that pride is always augmented when I meet with the Scouts on their award days,” said the Governor.

“The stories of their achievements are so impressive. The brilliance in which they conducted themselves during the COVID period is an inspiration. It’s interesting to imagine a camp of 80,000 set up online in 80,000 backyards around the globe as part of the World’s Biggest Virtual Camp. It was a terrific response and effort.

In my remarks at the award ceremony I suggested that the COVID experience would probably restructure the way we do community relations – in an era where isolation will be probably quite endemic, having community building organisations is going to be important and there will be a strong role for the Scouts in the future.”

As Chief Scout the Governor also challenged WA’s scouts to continue making a difference in the community, to continue setting personal goals and to design their own pathway of how to make those goals become a reality.
