The culmination of a two-year research project, Jay Emmanuel’s moving piece follows the perilous journey of a group of unaccompanied children drifting on Indo-Australian waters. The Governor was moved by the performance and recommended it as a must-see this Perth Festival. “I’ve seldom been more moved than I was last night at the opening of one of the Festival’s superb productions Children of the Sea. It was beautifully conceived and brilliantly moves between the reality of life on a refugee boat and the past lives of those who have found themselves in this situation through our connection and understanding of the characters,” said the Governor. “The staging is superb, the music is haunting, the themes are confronting, the acting is authentic, you cannot spend a better evening than attending it yourself.” Children of the Sea is now on at the Subiaco Arts Centre until this Saturday 20 February, but is selling fast.
