Australia Day Honours Investitures at Government House and a farewell to Chevron’s Al Williams

The Governor today hosted the first of two days of Investiture Ceremonies being held at Government House this week.

Sixty-three Australians in total are being invested at Government House today and tomorrow across four ceremonies, from a total of 845 recipients Australia-wide.

The first investiture ceremony this morning saw 17 West Australian’s presented with the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM), recognised for their outstanding service to the WA community across a range of fields that included the arts, sport, health and medicine, community service, history and heritage, education and volunteering.

At the second investiture session this afternoon the Governor presented a further 17 Honours to a variety of recipients awarded Officers (AO), Members (AM) and Medals (OAM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.

Those presented included representatives from sports medicine, science, education, performing arts, indigenous services, youth sector, finance and investment, not-for-profit work, emergency services, politics and sport.

The Governor today congratulated each recipient and thanked them for their tremendous contribution and efforts.

“Each of you here today is an invaluable example of the extraordinary work being done across our nation, for the betterment of our communities,” said the Governor.

“I thank each and every one of you for the extraordinary contribution you make to Western Australia and our country more broadly.”

Today’s ceremonies began with a Welcome To Country by Emeritus Professor Colleen Hayward AM and the singing of the Australian National Anthem by Ms Simone Craddock. Brass and string ensembles from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts also performed.

Later that evening, the Governor and Ms Annus attended an official farewell for departing Chevron Australia Managing Director Mr Al Williams.

Mr Williams is returning to the US after two years in Perth, to take up a new role as Chevron’s VP Global Corporate Affairs.
