Chatting live on 6PR, UWA Defence and Security Institute launch, a meeting with film maker David Roe and a special Executive Council meeting

The Governor today chatted live on 6PR with Perth Live host Oliver Peterson about the upcoming Ultimate Backyard Cricket Match being held at Government House on Saturday 20th March.

The event will see cricket legends, former AFL players and local celebrities join forces in two teams – the Governor’s XI and the Pirates. Monies raised will go to Perth children’s charity The Pirate Ship Foundation to help them support research into children’s brain cancer.

The Governor also spent some time chatting about his role as Governor and also his interest in US politics.

UWA Defence and Security Institute Launch

The Governor today attended the launch of the UWA Defence and Security Institute.

The institute is aimed at bringing increased focus onto WA’s important strategic role in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Secretary of the Department of Defence Mr Greg Moriarty officially launched the institute, with the Governor delivering a vote of thanks to all in attendance.

Following the official launch the Governor attended a private briefing by defence researchers, chaired by Professor Stephen Smith who will also Chair the Institute.

‘The work of the UWA Defence and Security Institute will greatly enhance the intellectual capacity of this State, including to ensure proficiency in the strategic calculus within the ‘Indo-Pacific’, especially given our extensive Indian Ocean expertise.’

Meeting with film maker David Roe

The Governor today met with WA Producer David Roe from Grand Bay Films Pty Ltd.

Mr Roe updated the Governor on his plans to produce a movie, that would be scripted and filmed in WA’s regional areas.

Special Meeting of the Executive Council

The Governor today welcomed the Hon Paul Papalia CSC, MLA and the Hon John Quigley, MLA to Government House for a Special meeting of the Executive Council. The Governor also received Clerk of the Executive Council, Ms Vivian Molan.

Presiding over Executive Council is one of the key constitutional functions of the role of Governor.
