Regional Visit Program: Esperance, Morning One

The Governor spent the day in the Shire of Esperance on a regional visit hosted by the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission.

The Governor this morning embarked on a tour of the Esperance Port, a vital trade hub connecting Western Australia with the world and the largest exporter of nickel concentrate in the Southern Hemisphere. The visit, hosted by Southern Ports, also included a briefing  by representatives from grain handler CBH Group, a meeting with Port staff and emergency service on-site teams, as well as a chance to board one of the many port tugs operated by MacKenzie Marine and Towage.

He then had an opportunity to walk around the Esperance Community Arts Centre gallery, followed by a discussion with members regarding the Esperance Community Arts program and the important role arts play in providing positive community development in the region.

The Governor then headed to Escare where he was briefed by Executive Officer Jo Aberle on the range of  family, youth and children-focused services the organisation provides for the community. He also had some fun taking part in the ‘Paint Esperance Read’ program aimed at encouraging parents to read to their children every day.
