The Governor lays a wreath in honour of WA’s 69 fallen firefighters on International Firefighters Day. Attended International Firefighters Day Memorial Service May 2, 2021 By Carole Kerr On International Firefighters Day, the Governor attended a special Memorial Service in Kings Park. Held at the Firefighter’s Memorial Grove, the Governor laid a wreath on behalf of all West Australians in honour of the 69 firefighters who have lost their lives in WA. The Governor joined firefighter’s family members, friends and former colleagues at the Service to pay his respects, along with WA’s Minister for Emergency Services The Hon Reece Whitby MLA and Department of Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Mr Darren Klemm AFSM. Representatives from the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service Association, Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades of WA, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the United Firefighters Union also took part along with other state and local government officials.
