Hosted a 10th Anniversary morning tea for Aboriginal Family Legal Services May 7, 2021 By Carole Kerr The Governor and Ms Annus hosted a morning tea at Government House to mark the 10th Year Anniversary of the Aboriginal Family Legal Services (AFLS) The AFLS is a not-for-profit organisation that works to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people live free from family violence and sexual assault. The Governor welcomed AFLS founders, staff, supporters and special guests to the celebratory event, congratulating all involved on ten years of outstanding work. “As an organisation you provide a safe, nurturing environment helping people recover and rebuild their lives. You support a marginalised community who desperately need your services and I commend your dedication, commitment and compassion.” Speakers at today’s event also included the Minister for Indigenous Australians the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP and AFLS CEO Ms Corina Martin who paid tribute to those who had or continue to work at AFLS and the many stakeholders who collaborate and support the service. She also paid tribute to AFLS clients and thanked them for their trust and their encouragement in the work that AFLS carries out. The AFLS’s 10 year celebration was originally due to be held at Government House in February but was interrupted due to COVID lockdown.
