The Governor and ANU Chancellor The Hon Julie Bishop at the official office opening in Perth’s CBD Official opening of ANU in Perth and celebratory dinner, Swearing-in of District Court Judge May 3, 2021 By Carole Kerr The Governor and Ms Annus attended the official opening of the Perth office of the Australian National University. The opening of ANU Perth provides a platform to spread the word about the University in Western Australia and to explore ways that ANU can play a greater role in the WA community. ANU Chancellor The Hon Julie Bishop welcomed guests to the event before inviting the Governor to address attendees. A former Chancellor of ANU from July 2008 until December 2009, Governor Beazley said it was a pleasure to welcome ANU, Australia’s only national university to Western Australia and said he was excited to think of the joint research initiatives and opportunities likely to eventuate from ANU having a permanent presence in the state. Following the official opening the Governor and Ms Annus hosted a dinner for special guests at Government House to celebrate the growing presence of ANU in the state and its strengthening connection with the WA community. Third row (l-r) Ms Naomi Flutter, Professor Barry Marshall AC, Mrs Adrienne Marshall Swearing-in Auxiliary Judge of The District Court of Western Australia The Governor today swore in Judge Bruce Goetze as an Auxiliary Judge of the District Court of Western Australia. His Honour took the Oath of Office in front of the Governor before being congratulated by Governor Beazley and receiving his Commissions. Also in attendance was the Chief Judge of the District Court the Hon Judge Julie Wager. The ceremony was conducted in line with the WA Government’s current COVID-related restrictions. Mr Goetze retired as a judge of the District Court on 22 October 2020, before spending a short period in November 2020 as an Auxiliary Judge. Prior to this he was appointed as a judge of District Court in 2006. During his time as a judge he was a member of the District Court Building Committee and Management Council Committee.
