Reception for supporters of Fremantle film studios

The passion, commitment and contribution of Perth organisations and individuals pivotal in securing funding for film studios in Fremantle were thanked this evening at Government House.

The WA screen industry has developed strongly over a long period of time thanks to the efforts of local industry players, Screenwest and government support but all without the required infrastructure to be truly competitive.

The State Government’s promise for funding to construct the world-class film studio and screen production facility will allow the state to compete in the film and television sector with a broader vision to ensure an ‘eco system’ for the wider creative industries, and others, to flourish.

The studios are likely to be a game-changer for Western Australia, creating a wide variety of jobs, providing training and further education opportunities, while delivering economic diversity and an additional tourism drawcard.

Hollywood heavyweight Kate Walsh attended, along with Simon McQuoid, Director of box-office hit Mortal Combat.
