Roundtable to boost WA capabilities, welcoming the new Chinese Consul General, meeting on Asia Pacific affairs, and an update on defence research

The Governor’s day began with a productive roundtable breakfast bringing together health and medical life science industry and government experts to examine opportunities and ideas for advancement of WA’s MedTech and pharma industries.

Hosted by the Governor, with the assistance of WA’s Chief Scientist Professor Peter Klinken and the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, the discussion focused on enabling commercialisation and manufacturing in WA, as well as ways to help industry get their product up and out to market.

Welcoming the new Consul General of the People’s Republic of China Perth

The Governor today welcomed the new Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Perth, Mr Long Dingbin to Government House.

The Consul General assumed office in Perth at the start of April, after arriving from his previous role as Consul General to Pakistan.

The Governor and the Consul General exchanged gifts at today’s meeting, with the Consul General presenting the Governor with a Chinese vase.

Defence Research Experts visit Government House

Experts from the UNSW Defence Research Institute, led by Vice Admiral Paul Maddison (Ret’d) today visited Government House for a meeting with the Governor.

VADM Maddison is the inaugural director of the UNSW Defence Research Institute, joining in 2019 following his role as Canada’s High Commissioner to Australia. VADM Maddison also previously served as a Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy and served in Canada’s Armed Forces for 37 years.

He was joined at Government House by the Institute’s Business Development Manager Lt-Col Mick Cook and the University of Western Australia’s Chair of Defence Studies Professor Peter Dean.

Meeting with Ms Andrea Gleason

The Governor met with Ms Andrea Gleason from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade at Government House today.

Ms Gleason provided a briefing on areas of interest in Asia Pacific affairs.
