Year 10 Mercedes College students enjoy a tour of Government House and a chat with the Governor The classroom comes to Government House, a meeting with global silk weaver and artist Mirka Rozmus, and Executive Council May 18, 2021 By Carole Kerr The classroom came to life at Government House today with Humanities and Social Science (HASS) students from Mercedes College meeting with the Governor and enjoying a tour. The Year 10 HASS group heard from the Governor about his role and the many constitutional, Vice Regal and day to day duties he performs. The students were then taken on a comprehensive behind-the-scenes tour of the House which incorporated aspects of WA history, politics and law. A meeting with global artist and designer Mirka Rozmus and Mr Shane McBride Following on from a previous visit in late 2020 Ms Mirka Rozmus and husband Shane McBride returned to Government House today to meet with the Governor. A globally recognised designer of silk scarves, Ms Rozmus showed the Governor two new scarves she hopes to have presented on behalf of the people of Western Australia to US President Joe Biden and VC President Kamala Harris. The Governor had previously assisted Ms Rozmus in his former role as Australian Ambassador in the United States in presenting scarves to former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Meeting of Executive Council Every second Tuesday the Governor presides over a regular meeting of Executive Council and joining him today was the Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA Minister for Police; Road Safety; Defence Industry; Veterans Issues, and the Hon John Carey MLA Minister for Housing; Local Government. Also in attendance was Clerk of the Executive Council Mr Nick Hagley. Presiding over Executive Council is one of the key constitutional functions of the role of Governor.
