Hosted a special RAN Dinner, attended the Australia Awards, and welcomed the Ambassador of Norway

An event steeped in Royal Australian Navy (RAN) tradition was held at Government House this evening, with the Governor hosting the the first Navy Legal Mess Dinner in WA in over eight years.

Originally scheduled for last year but delayed due to COVID, the event marked the official welcome of five new Legal Officers who joined the WA Navy Legal Panel in late 2019. Their primary role is to provide legal support and services to the ever-expanding Fleet Base West, with tonight’s Mess Dinner officially launched as the inaugural ‘Admiral Sir James Stirling’ Mess Dinner.

Welcomed the Ambassador of Norway

Earlier in the day the Governor met with the Ambassador of Norway His Excellency Mr Paul Gulleijk Larsen on his visit to Western Australia.

The Ambassador, who was accompanied by the Norwegian Honorary Consulate Perth Mr Rob Lynn, has had a busy trip to WA which included a flying visit to the Pilbara for regional meetings and to inspect the Engie-Yara Renewable Hydrogen and Ammonia Plant.

Attended the Australia Awards

The Governor attended the 2021 Australia Awards this morning enjoying a chance to meet with some of the scholarship recipients currently studying in WA.

Across 2021 the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has offered over 800 scholarships and short courses to individuals from 20 developing countries. The Awards are prestigious international scholarships and short courses aimed at offering the next generation of global leaders the chance to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia.

The Governor today offered his congratulations to the recipients attending today’s event in Perth who are part of a cohort of 114 from 31 countries currently studying in WA.
