International Yoga Day 2021 came early at Government House with a special celebration in the Gardens

STEM Award Winners tour, hosting the Italian Ambassador and celebrating International Day of Yoga in the Gardens

A delightful start to the day for the Governor as he welcomed students from Cecil Andrews College to Government House.

The visit was to formally recognise the school’s success in receiving a Meritorious Award for Leadership in the 2020 Governor’s STEM Awards. The visit was delayed due to Covid last year.

The students enjoyed a chat with the Governor and morning tea, before being led on a House tour for a deeper insight into the workings of the Governor’s Establishment.

Afternoon visit with the Ambassador of Italy to Australia

The Governor today met with the Ambassador of Italy to Australia Her Excellency Francesca Tardioli at Government House. The Ambassador has been in the role in Australia since 2019, with this week marking her first official visit to Western Australia.

Yoga Celebration in the Government House Gardens

Every Thursday the Governor and Ms Annus open up the gardens at Government House for free community yoga, with today’s event attracting a large crowd in advance celebration of the 7th International Day of Yoga next Monday.

The official United Nations day will be recognised across the globe on the weekend under the theme ‘Yoga for well-being’, but today around 60 yoga fans enjoyed a head start in the relaxing surrounds of Government House.

The Governor addressed the large crowd of yoga enthusiasts before joining Consul General of India in Perth Ms Dantu Charandasi and other special guests in presenting certificates to teachers and regular attendees before a large group yoga got underway.

Free Community Yoga in Government House Gardens happens every Thursday from 4pm to 5pm weather permitting. Registration is required and you can find out more via our website here
