Celebrating our WA of the Year Award winners, and a focus on our state’s rare earths capabilities.

A chance to congratulate in person the recipients of the 2021 West Australian of the Year awards with a reception at Government House today.

The winners were announced in June with the Governor today welcoming all seven award winners, and their guests to a lunchtime gathering.

Congratulations to Richard Goyder AO (Community and overall winner), Karla Hart (Aboriginal), Alec Coles OBE (Arts), Julia Redwood (Business), Professor Jonathan Carapetis AM (Professions), Murray McHenry (Sport) and Kendall Whyte (Youth).

The awards recognise and celebrate outstanding contributions to our state.

Focusing on WA’s Rare Earths industry

The Governor today hosted a working breakfast bringing together senior industry, research and government representatives to examine opportunities to advance rare earths industries in WA.

The gathering included Mines Minister the Honourable Bill Johnston MLA, the Consul Generals of Japan, India and the United States, key state government and industry figures, and mine operators.

“Excellent breakfast with the Minister and senior people in the critical minerals industry. A discussion on next steps moving from mining through the various stages of production associated with rare earths,” said the Governor.

“This is the direction of future industry and West Australia is perfectly positioned to play a central role.”
