Natural Resources Management, Online Learning, and Foreign Affairs on the Governor’s agenda

It was a busy day for the Governor with multiple meetings and a variety of discussions at Government House today.

The Governor met with CEO of Rangelands NRM Ms Debra Tarabini to talk about natural resource management in our State’s Rangelands – an area 32 times the size of Tasmania.

The organisation oversees 85%, around 220 million hectares of WA including the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Shark Bay, Ningaloo Coast and the Bungle Bungle Range, as well as Karijini National Park, Roebuck Bay and the Great Western Woodlands.

The Governor was provided with a briefing on the group’s work securing investments in environmental, social and governance initiatives.

Meeting to chat about Student Edge

Student Edge is an Australian student advocacy service, founded in Perth in 2003 by four students from Willetton Senior HS who felt there was a gap between the school curriculum and essential life skills not taught in school.

Today two of the Co-Founders Jeremy Chetty and Craig Chetty met with the Governor to provide a briefing on the progress of the organisation which now has over one million members.

They were joined by Student Edge Chairman Glenn Butcher and supporter and former WA Chief Scientist Professor Lyn Beazley.

The group spoke to the Governor about the soft launch of a new online learning platform which members can subscribe to for access to bite size online learning modules on real world skills.

Welcoming DFAT’s Kate Longhurst

The Governor today welcomed Ms Kate Longhurst from the Department for Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to Government House.

Ms Longhurst was Director of the DFAT Western Australian State Office from 2018 to 2020. She is currently the Mandarin Language Trainee at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
