UWA politics students bring the classroom to Government House

University comes to Government House, and a catch-up chat with Ben Elton

Star power at Government House today with comedian, writer, actor, producer and director Ben Elton popping in for a chat with the Governor.

The man behind legendary series such at The Young Ones and Blackadder joined the Governor to record an interview as part of our ‘Conversations at Government House’ series that will air a little later this year.

Prior to the interview recording, the Governor and Ms Annus were joined by Mr Elton, Professor David Shirley Executive Dean of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and performer, producer and Government House Foundation Artistic Director Fiona Campbell for an extended chat about WA’s arts and culture industry.

UWA students bring their learning to Government House

The classroom came to Government House today with UWA politics students and their lecturers meeting with the Governor, before enjoying a behind-the-scenes history tour of the House.

The group, led by Professor Ben Reilly and Dr Lachlan Umbers, are all studying the unit ‘Integrating Philosophy, Politics and Economics’, with the Governor today providing a lesson in his role across the three arms of Government – Legislature, Judiciary and Executive.

Following the meet and tour, the students rounded off their visit by enjoying an informal class discussion in the Government House Gardens.
