Congratulations to the Western Australian recipients of the Australian Bravery Decorations Western Australians recognised in 2021 Bravery Awards August 18, 2021 By Adele Hollywood Congratulations to the Western Australians recognised in the 2021 Australian Bravery Decorations announced by the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) today. These awards recognise the courageous acts of 48 people who risked their own safety to protect the lives of others. 15 of the recipients were recognised for bravery acts in Western Australia. In a dangerous situation each of them was brave, selfless and put their own safety at risk to help someone else. WA’s recipients include Jayla Smith who was 13 when she pursued her four-year-old nephew who had run into the path of an oncoming truck. Although both of them were hit, thanks to Jayla’s actions their injuries were treatable. Six WA police officers were also recognised. Two of them, along with a third officer and a NSW man, were recognised with a Group Bravery Citation for their actions during the rescue of a man from difficult seas at Broome. The recipients will be invited to an investiture ceremony in the coming months to receive the insignia of their award from the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia.
