The Governor thanks all involved in the upcoming MACA Cancer 200 Ride for Research Six million dollars raised, and counting, for cancer research October 11, 2021 By Adele Hollywood The Governor and Ms Annus hosted a special event at Government House today to acknowledge the MACA 200 Ride for Research’s tenth anniversary and to wish all the cyclists well for the ride this weekend. Photo – The Governor with (l-r) the Hon Wayne Martin AC QC, Mr Geoff Baker and Professor Peter Leedman AO This year, a record 1500 riders will cycle the 200km from Optus Stadium to Mandurah and back again over the weekend of the 16-17 October. The Governor commended all the riders, their supporters and sponsors on a truly inspiring effort, with pledges already in excess of six million dollars with still 5 days to go. All money raised goes directly towards funding vital cancer research projects at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, of which the Governor is patron. Over the past ten years, the MACA 200 Ride for Research has raised over $40 million for cancer research by the Perkins, making this event the most successful charity bike event in Australia in terms of fundraising.
