The Governor and the Honourable Ben Wyatt A dinner to honour Ben Wyatt, welcoming back a former Agent General, and talking politics with a media legend. October 18, 2021 By Carole Kerr A chance to say thanks to former WA Treasurer the Honourable Ben Wyatt, with a dinner held in his honour. The Governor and Ms Annus welcomed Mr Wyatt to Government House, acknowledging his 15-year parliamentary career, including four as state treasurer. It was also a chance to say thank you to his family who supported him across his time in state politics. Mr Wyatt was the Member for Victoria Park in the Legislative Assembly from 2006 until March this year. In 2017 he became the first Aboriginal treasurer in any Australian parliament. Welcoming back a former WA Agent General After three years as Western Australian Agent General in London Mr Mike Deeks CSC has returned to Perth, today calling in for a catch-up with the Governor following the conclusion of his role. Mr Deeks has recently taken up a new role as Group Managing Director for innovative WA ocean technology company, Blue Ocean Monitoring. Talking politics with Peter Kennedy The Governor today enjoyed a catch-up with a WA media legend and one of the state’s leading political commentators, Peter Kennedy. Mr Kennedy has led an illustrious career as an award-winning political journalist and one-time press secretary, and is well known by many as the former state political reporter for ABC TV. Peter is still active today as a political commentator and writer and is a columnist for WA Business News.
