The Governor hosts a reunion of UWA Guild Councillors from his time as President in 1970

Talking education, health, cricket bats and Guild days

Multiple meetings covering a cross section of community, health and education discussions for the Governor today, with health first on the agenda.

The Governor met with representatives from The Raine Study, a long-term research project which the Governor is Patron.

In attendance, Raine Study Board Chair Dr Jan Stewart, Director Professor Romola Bucks and Scientific Director Associate Professor Rebecca Glauert.

The Raine Study, was established in 1989 and is one of the largest multi-generational studies of pregnancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood to be carried out anywhere in the world, providing valuable insight into health and development of individuals over decades.

Going in to bat for people living with intellectual disabilities

A new twist on how to use a cricket bat today, with the Governor meeting with representatives from WA charity ‘Where there’s a Will’, also known as Willo.

Willo supports people living with intellectual disabilities, using cricket bats as a way to inspire connection and inclusion across the community. This is done through the creation and artistic design of cricket bats, which are then auctioned off to raise funds.

WA representative Leah Rando-Poller met with the Governor today unveiling her own artistic bat creation during a briefing to update him on the work being done by ‘Where There’s A Will’ in WA.

Reuniting UWA’s Guild Councillors

Over half a century on from the time the Governor was the President of the UWA Guild in 1970, a reunion for some of the Guild’s former Councillors was held at Government House.

Joining the Governor and Ms Annus was the Guild’s first ever female President Dr Sue Boyd, who held the role in 1969, as well as a stellar line-up of former Councillors including former Chief Justice of Australia the Hon Robert French AC and former State Education Minister the Hon Bob Pearce.

The Governor was awarded an Honorary Life Associate of the Guild in March this year.

Meeting with WA Chief Scientist Professor Peter Klinken AC

A catch-up also with WA’s Chief Scientist Professor Peter Klinken today.

The Governor and Professor Klinken met for ongoing discussions around science and learning opportunities in WA.
