Governor’s School Stem Awards 2021 Governor’s School Stem Award winners announced and Oxford-Cambridge reunion November 15, 2021 By Adele Hollywood The Governor hosted the 2021 School Stem Awards at a ceremony today at Government House.The awards recognise and celebrate Western Australian Schools that demonstrate excellence in leadership, advocacy, engagement and achievements in STEM education and are delivered by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation working in partnership with Scitech. 2021 winners include: Primary Leadership Excellence Award Winner (winner) – Harrisdale Primary School Primary Meritorious Leadership Award (runner-up) – Marblebar Primary School Secondary Leadership Excellence Award (winner) – Joseph Banks Secondary College Secondary Meritorious Leadership Award (runner-up) – Ashdale Secondary College Photo – The Governor addresses the audience at the Governor’s School STEM Awards (photos by Michael Bain) “Congratulations to all finalists. Each of you can be proud that you and your schools have been judged to be doing some of the best work in Western Australia in STEM. A lot of the jobs our kids will have in the future don’t even exist yet. The world is evolving at such a rapid rate as innovation and new technologies continuously change the way we live and work. The problem-solving, critical thinking and digital skills that come from studying STEM are relevant to all future jobs. We’re here to recognise schools that are leading the way in building STEM culture in Western Australia. I particularly want to congratulate all school representatives here today for your efforts. You have all set important examples of what success looks like in STEM education.” Hosting the Oxford – Cambridge Alumni reunion The Governor welcomed West Australian-based graduates of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge to Government House for a special alumni event. Photo – The Governor chats with alumni members from Oxford and Cambridge The Governor was delighted to deliver the keynote address at the event, himself a graduate of Oxford University, having been a recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship and commencing his studies in 1973. Oxford and Cambridge are the two oldest and most well-known universities in the United Kingdom.
