The Governor opens the discussions at the COTA WA roundtable Hosting a Council of the Ageing roundtable, Executive Council and a conversation with Australian Submarine Commander November 2, 2021 By Adele Hollywood The issues facing older Australians was the focus of a roundtable discussion held at Government House today. The Governor and Council of the Aging (COTA) Western Australia joining forces to discuss the issues relating particularly to Mature Age Employment. As Patron of COTA WA, the Governor has been working closely with the organisation’s ‘Positive Ageing Alliance’ to help generate discussion on key areas impacting older Australians. Today’s event was the fourth and final roundtable in this important series. Previous roundtables covered ‘Elder Abuse’, ‘The Great Digital Divide’ and ‘Vulnerable Cohorts’. Meeting of Executive Council It was another full agenda at this morning’s Executive Council. Joining the Governor today was The Hon Rita Saffioti MLA Minister for Transport; Planning; Ports and the Hon Tony Buti MLA Minister for Finance; Lands; Sports and Recreation; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests. Presiding over Executive Council is one of the key constitutional functions of the role of Governor. The Executive Council is the supreme decision making body of Government and comprises the Governor (as Chair) and all Cabinet Ministers. Conversation with an Australian Submarine Commander For his final engagement of the day, the Governor met with Australian Submarine Commander Captain Doug Theobald CSC, as he prepares to leave his WA based role to head to his new post.
