Merry Christmas from all at Government House

A Christmas Message from the Governor

My wife Susie and I would like to extend our thoughts and well wishes to our fellow West Australian’s right around the state as we prepare to celebrate a Christmas that has unexpectedly been impacted once again by COVID.

We know that for many it will be a very different festive season than planned, in particular those amongst you who will put the safety of our family, friends and neighbours above your own needs as you self-isolate to ensure the health and wellbeing of the wider community.

Christmas is traditionally a time for coming together, and we are grateful that those smaller family gatherings at this special time will still be possible for many.

We have faced these disruptions before and as a community have rallied together brilliantly, looking out for each other, making small sacrifices to ensure the best for everyone, and I encourage you all to do so again.

I also understand that there are many who will be separated from loved ones who are across the other side of the country, or around the world and I expect that once again there will be a lot of celebrating and connections via the internet and social media.

Our thoughts especially go out to our state’s contact tracers, health personnel, first responders and emergency services who face a Christmas working around the clock, and all year round, to keep our community safe.

To all of you – and your families who stand behind you – our heartfelt thanks for everything you do.

At this time of year our thoughts also turn to the many defence personnel at home and abroad who are also away from home on duty, keeping us safe.

All of us will celebrate in different ways over this festive season, and however you spend this time our wish is that it will be one filled with happiness and goodwill.

– Governor Beazley
