Garden Party to celebrate WA’s volunteers

Red everywhere in the Government House Gardens today in celebration of the work of volunteers in Western Australia, ahead of International Volunteer Day on Sunday.

The lower lawn area was the perfect setting for a Garden Party organised by Volunteering WA, of which the Governor is Patron, as a way of thanking WA’s many volunteers.

Volunteering WA advances and celebrates the generous time and effort offered by so many who give so much to help others.

This is the fourth year the Governor and Ms Annus have hosted the Garden Party in the Government House Gardens, with guests dressing in red – the official colour of volunteering – to mark the occasion.

The Garden Party is held in advance of International Volunteer Day which will be celebrated across the globe this coming Sunday 5 December. The 2021 theme is ‘Volunteer now for our common future’.

In addressing the gathering the Governor acknowledged the strong sense of volunteering in our state and the crucial role it plays in our communities.

“There is no doubt we need to recognise and support the spirit of volunteerism to help create a better future, whether on a global scale, or more locally within Western Australia,”

“The impact you and all volunteers have on communities is immeasurable. I thank each and every one of you for your tireless, selfless and invaluable contributions.”
