A new magistrate, meeting with the Executive Council and an afternoon at the Opera February 22, 2022 By Ashayla Dawn The Governor and Ms Annus were thrilled to be invited to the West Australian Opera’s (WAO) preview of “Carmen“. Accompanied by Carolyn Chard AM Executive Director WAO, the Governor and Ms Annus enjoyed the musical talents of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and singers Paul O’Neil and Ashlyn Tymms as they recorded songs from the production which, due to the current climate, had to be postponed. Executive Council The day began with a meeting of the Executive Council. The Honourable David Templeman MLA DipTchg; BEd Minister for Culture and the Arts; Sport and Recreation; International Education; Heritage Leader of the House and The Honourable Donald (Don) Thomas Punch MLA BPsych; BSocwk; MBA Minister for Disability Services; Small Business; Fisheries; Seniors and Ageing were in attendance. Magistrates Court Investiture Today, Ms Heidi Karen Watson was appointed to be a magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Western Australia and the Children’s Court of Western Australia by the Governor in a small ceremony attended by friends and family. Ms Watson was first admitted to practice in Western Australia in July 2000. Her career these past 22 years has been diverse, traversing civil litigation, liquor licensing and criminal law. Ms Watson has acted as both a prosecutor and defence counsel and has a strong understanding of issues faced by our indigenous communities. Congratulations to Magistrate Heidi Watson on her appointment.
